The webcast shows another cool TV display. This transparent OLED display could for example be used for displaying directions and GPS information to someone driving a car.

I can see 3-D gaming being of interest, but overhead displays for drivers sounds like another potentially dangerous distraction. With the GPS item being located typically in the centre of the car console, drivers must necessarily take their eyes off the road to look at the GPS map. This creates a certain sense of danger because they know for a fact that they are not looking at the road. An overhead display in the eye sight of the road causes the driver to refocus on a closer point in distance (1-2 ft away from the face) and essentially lose focus on the road. However, the transparency may give the driver a false sense of security thinking that he is still “looking forward”. Thus, the driver may stay longer looking at an overhead semi-transparent GPS display rather than a GPS system that is off to the side. Which one is more dangerous is yet to be determined.

Anonymous makes some good points, but HUD (head up displays) have been used in aircraft for many years without problems.
