New Engineering School for England

Plans were announced to create a new kind of school, funded equally by Inventor James Dyson and the English Government. In the words of James Dyson, (Dyson school ‘to boost engineers’):
The Dyson School of Innovation and Design will open in Bath in 2008.
Experts and practioners from industry and higher education industry will play an important role in the School, working with the students in the creation of knowledge. The Dyson School of Innovation and Design will be the place will give skills to the young people of today to become the innovators and engineers of tomorrow.

[…] He at least partially gets the idea. I think he could benefit from studying and exploring the Toyota Production System – perhaps he could attend the seminars by Toyota UK. Still he is encouraging some of the right stuff, and the innovative engineering school he is half funding seems like a very good idea. “If you don’t work harder, you’ll end up working in a factory.” That’s the threat my teachers used at school.
